Tulove grede

Tulove grede is one of Croatia's most striking rock ridges, rising within Velebit Nature Park in the municipality of Općina Jasenice. This limestone crest stretches for roughly a kilometer and reaches 1120 meters above sea level, built from sharp towers, pillars and cracks that from a distance look like a row of stone organ pipes or a line of needle-like spires. The ground is rocky and calls for sturdy footwear and careful footing — vipers are known to live in the cracks between the boulders, so pay attention to where you place your hands and feet. For safety reasons, including old wartime hazards still present in the wider region, it's essential to stay on the marked trail and never wander off onto unofficial shortcuts.

Late spring and early autumn are the best seasons, when temperatures are mild and the exposed rock doesn't heat up too much in the sun. In summer, start early in the morning to avoid the heat on the shadeless, exposed ridge. In winter or during strong wind, the more demanding climbing section becomes risky and is better skipped.
