Klek mountain

Klek is the striking mountain rising above the village of Potok Musulinski and nearby Ogulin, one of the most recognisable peaks in Croatia's Lika region. It sits on the edge of the Velika Kapela range, precisely located at coordinates 45.26033, 15.14547.

How do you get to the summit?

The most frequently used trail to Klek starts in Bjelsko, but a well-known alternative route runs through Potok Musulinski itself — from Jasenak via Potok Musulinski to Bjelsko and the mountain lodge, from where the summit is reached in roughly five and a half hours in total. After a stretch of rock-cut steps along the way, hikers reach a ridge viewpoint overlooking the village of Potok Musulinski and Bjelsko below — one of the most photographed spots on the whole route.

When is the best time to visit?

Because the upper section is rocky and steep, the safest and most comfortable window for climbing Klek runs from late spring to early autumn, when the trail is dry and technically manageable. Plan for a full day out — the ascent alone takes several hours, and the ridge-top views reward the effort at any time of year, provided the weather holds.
