Žuti kuk

Žuti Kuk is a rocky peak in the Velebit mountain range, located within the municipality of Općina Karlobag in Croatia. It rises to roughly 1,180 metres above sea level and forms one of the signature summits along the Kiza ridge, a favourite among hikers and rock scramblers alike.

Where is Žuti Kuk?

The peak sits in the central section of Velebit, within a cluster of limestone towers known as the Dabarski Kukovi (Dabar Peaks). Together with the neighbouring summits of Kiza, Vranji Kuk and Grabar, it forms a roughly two-kilometre ridge lined with vertical and leaning rock faces of unusual, weathered shapes. The trailhead lies only 18–20 km from the coastal town of Karlobag, reached via the Gospić–Karlobag road.

How do you get there?

The easiest approach is by car along the Gospić–Karlobag road (route 61), from where a marked mountain trail climbs toward Stupačinovo, continuing on to Kiza and Žuti Kuk. From Zagreb, the drive takes around three hours. The loop around the summit itself is moderately demanding and typically takes a little over an hour, not counting the approach from the car park to the start of the actual route.
