What is the history behind this church?

The original parish church on this site was dedicated to Saint Macari and is first recorded in a document from 1048. At that time it belonged to the abbey of Àger, and its dependence on the abbey is confirmed by later church records, including the synodal books of 1648 and visitation reports from 1757–58 and 1783–84. The current dedication to Saint Joseph came later, after the building underwent a major reconstruction in the 18th century that gave it the appearance it has today.
