Rozhledna Korunka

Korunka lookout tower rises above the Berounka river valley in the village of Černolice, on the edge of the Brdy hills in Central Bohemia, not far from Beroun and Karlštejn. Standing just below the summit of Červená hlína (467 metres above sea level), this 30-metre steel tower opened to visitors on 29 May 2022.

What makes it different from other lookout towers?

Unlike a typical straight tower, Korunka is built as a rotational hyperboloid with its axis tilted 7.5 degrees toward the south. The result is a structure that visibly leans - more steeply, in fact, than the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, which tilts only 5.5 degrees. This bold engineering choice has made Korunka one of the more distinctive modern lookout towers in the region.

How do you get to the top?

A spiral staircase of 118 steps leads up to the observation deck. Instead of a conventional solid railing, the platform is enclosed with stainless steel mesh, giving visitors an open, almost unobstructed view while climbing. Access is free of charge, and the tower is open for self-guided visits from March through November.

What can you see from the platform?

From the top, the panorama takes in the Brdy hills, the wider Beroun area, the Cukrák television transmitter, and - on a clear day - Prague, the town of Černošice, and a striking meander of the Berounka river. Řip hill is visible too, and under good conditions the view stretches as far as the Šumava mountains and the Krkonoše range, a remarkable reach for a tower of this height.

How do you reach the tower?

The shortest approach starts at a car park by the local football pitch in Černolice. From there, unmarked paths lead roughly 400 metres to the tower, gaining about 40 metres in elevation - a short but noticeably steep final stretch, so allow a few extra minutes for the climb and wear comfortable shoes.

Korunka works well as the goal of a short trip from Prague or Beroun - the climb itself takes only minutes, and the view from the platform rewards the brief effort with a panorama spanning several regions at once.
