Parque da Pasteleira

About this place

Parque da Pasteleira is a city park in Porto, in the Lordelo do Ouro parish. It covers around 7 hectares and offers a calm break from urban life, even though it sits right in the middle of the city. Green slopes, a lake and wooden footbridges make it one of the favourite places for locals to unwind.

What is Parque da Pasteleira?

The park was built between 2004 and 2009 and designed by landscape architect Marisa Lavrador. Although small, it has a clear and well-thought-out layout. The street Rua de Afonso Paiva divides it into two sections, and three wooden bridges link them. Crossing from one side to the other is a small highlight of any walk here.

What is there to see?

In the lower part of the park there is a lake surrounded by gardens and grassy areas, a good spot for a picnic or a rest on the lawn. Most of the park lies on a slope covered mainly by pine and oak forest. It preserves some of the last remains of the pine forest that once covered the area, so a stroll among the trees gives a sense of what this part of Porto looked like before it was built up.

The park also offers:

  • a children's playground,
  • public restrooms,
  • a shared cycle path used by cyclists and pedestrians,
  • an Environmental Education Centre (CEA), which includes the Riverbeds Interpretive Centre.

What can you do here?

The park is popular for walking, cycling, outdoor exercise and picnics. The playground makes it a convenient stop for families with children. Nature lovers will find woodland and water, and the park is also listed among birdwatching places in Portugal. A marked walking route through the park is available as well.

How to get there

The park is in the middle of the city, so access is easy. You can arrive by car, by bike or by public transport. Bus lines 200, 204, 207 and 504 stop at the "Pasteleira" stop.
