About this place
Dolnoněmčanské louky is a nature reserve lying south of the village of Slavkov, in the Uherské Hradiště district, on the western slope of the Lesná hill (696 m) in the southwestern part of the White Carpathians. The protected area covers 28.81 hectares and was designated in 1982.
Why is this place protected?
The reserve preserves the last substantial remnant of species-rich flower meadows that once formed the much larger Lesná meadow complex. These White Carpathian meadows are known across the region for their exceptional plant diversity, and it is precisely this richness that justified placing the site under legal protection. As farming intensification and afforestation reduced the extent of such habitats throughout the White Carpathians over the decades, Dolnoněmčanské louky remained one of the few places where this type of landscape survived largely intact.
What can you see there?
The reserve's landscape consists of open, sun-exposed meadows interspersed with scattered solitary trees, giving the area the characteristic open appearance typical of traditionally grazed or mown grasslands. Its position on the western slope of Lesná means the land receives sunlight for most of the day, favoring the warmth-loving meadow vegetation found here. The White Carpathians as a whole are known for this mosaic of habitats — meadows, field margins, and scattered woodland — which together form one of the most valuable natural areas in the Czech Republic.
How to get there?
The reserve lies directly south of the village of Slavkov, close to the border with Slovakia, in the heart of the White Carpathians. The region appeals to visitors looking for quiet hiking and cycling away from crowds, and a visit here can easily be combined with climbing the nearby Lesná summit. The surrounding villages, including Slavkov itself, have retained their rural character and make a good starting point for further walks across the neighboring hills and valleys.
