About this place
Uvezené is a protected forest nature monument located about 2.5 km southeast of the village of Horní Němčí, in the White Carpathians, at elevations between 500 and 575 metres above sea level. The protected area covers 14.39 hectares and was established by a decree of the District Office in Uherské Hradiště on 1 August 1991.
What makes this site special?
The bedrock of Uvezené consists of Carpathian flysch, which has weathered into a deep, loose, humus-rich soil that holds water well. Water is, in fact, the main force behind the site's dramatic terrain: numerous spring outflows and groundwater seepage trigger frequent soil slippages, leaving the reserve's surface strongly uneven and varied. This difficult terrain made large-scale forestry impractical in the past, so the woodland here has historically been managed only through selective felling — removing individual mature trees while leaving the rest of the stand undisturbed.
What kind of forest grows here?
The reserve protects a stretch of oak-hornbeam forest typical of the lower elevations of the White Carpathians. The canopy is dominated by sessile oak and European beech, accompanied by sycamore maple, common hornbeam, aspen, birch, field maple and ash. This mix of species is characteristic of fertile, moist oak-hornbeam sites and reflects the natural, multi-species character of the woodland.
What plants and animals can be found there?
The forest floor at Uvezené is rich and varied, home to wild garlic and hairy sedge, along with martagon lily, lungwort and mezereon. The presence of these species points to a fertile, moist and partly shaded habitat typical of older deciduous forests.
The reserve is also a refuge for forest birds. Visitors may hear the common cuckoo, and spot various woodpecker species along with nuthatches and tits — all typical inhabitants of mature broadleaf forests with a varied age structure of trees.
How to get to the Uvezené reserve?
Uvezené lies within the cadastral territory of Horní Němčí, in the borderland of southeastern Moravia, at the foot of the White Carpathians below Velká Javořina. The village itself sits at roughly 340 metres above sea level, while the reserve extends higher up toward the border with Slovakia. This is a destination for those who enjoy quiet forest walks and want to see a near-untouched oak-hornbeam forest — with no tourist infrastructure, but a wealth of understory plants and birdlife.
