About this place
Alančić is a peak in the northern part of Velebit, rising above the coastal town of Stinica in Croatia. Part of the Dinaric Alps, the mountain reaches an elevation of 1,611 metres and is one of the notable viewpoints within Northern Velebit National Park.
How do you get there?
The usual starting point for Alančić is the Alan mountain hut, reached by road from the coast near Stinica, roughly 6 km to the west. Interestingly, this area was once linked to the coast by a cableway that carried timber down from the Alan area toward Jablanac. From the hut, a stretch of the famous Premužić Trail leads south to the summit — a stone-paved path that most hikers cover in about an hour to ninety minutes on foot.
What will you see?
Alančić is a grassy, gently shaped summit offering wide views across the northern and central parts of Velebit and out to the Adriatic Sea and its offshore islands. The surrounding area around Alan is made up of broad mountain pastures, karst valleys, and scenic slopes, with a locality known as Mirovo close by. Other well-known Velebit peaks rise nearby, including Zečjak at 1,622 metres, and the Alan hut also serves as a convenient base for trips to Kita, Veliki Golić, and Golubić. Velebit itself is Croatia's longest mountain range and one of the country's richest natural landscapes.
When should you visit?
Summer is the best time to head up to Alančić, when the trails are dry and conditions in the higher parts of Velebit are more stable. Mountain routes in this area can be demanding and exposed to sudden weather changes, so it is worth checking the forecast and trail conditions before setting out, especially outside the summer months.
