Vodopády Jeleního potoka

Vodopády Jeleního potoka (the Deer Stream Waterfalls) form a small, scenic chain of cascades and rocky steps in Josefův Důl, deep in the Jizera Mountains (Jizerské hory). Where exactly are the waterfalls?

Jelení potok rises on the eastern slope of Černá hora (1,085 m above sea level) and flows south. The most scenic stretch begins roughly 1.5 km before the stream joins the Kamenice river, which it does just below the Josefův Důl reservoir dam, at the upper edge of the village.

Start at the Josefův Důl – údolí Kamenice trail junction and follow the yellow-marked trail toward Pitelkův pomníček and Kristiánov for about 2 km, until you reach the area above the reservoir's north-eastern bank, just before crossing Hluboký potok. There, an unmarked forest track branches off to the right; follow its right-hand fork for roughly another 1.5 km to reach the falls. Bringing a hiking map or a GPS app is a good idea, since the turn-off is easy to miss.
