Velika Petka

Velika Petka is a modest 192-metre hill on the Lapad peninsula, roughly 3 kilometres north of Dubrovnik's Old Town. Together with the neighbouring rise of Mala Petka, it forms a 43-hectare forest park — a favourite green escape for locals that most visitors never hear about, tucked away from the city walls and beaches.

How do you get to Velika Petka?

The easiest entrance starts on Ulica Ivanska, across from the Ooh la la Pizza house — from there a road climbs to the park's gateway, then a surfaced track zigzags up through a series of sharp hairpin bends to the summit. The path to Velika Petka itself is paved and fairly gentle, unlike the rougher, gravelly trails on adjacent Mala Petka. A full loop covering both hills runs about 5.5 km with 286 metres of elevation gain, taking roughly 2 to 2.5 hours at an easy pace. A shorter walk to Velika Petka alone, skipping Mala Petka, can be done in about an hour or two.
