Pazo de Donfreán

Pazo de Donfreán is a Baroque manor house standing in the hamlet of Donfreán, within the parish of Santiago de Catasós, about 2 km from the town centre of Lalín in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia.

What's the history behind it?

The estate at Donfreán originally belonged to the Taboada family. In 1625 it passed to the Gómez Oxea de Albán family, and later — following a family dispute and marriage ties — ownership moved to the Montenegro family. Records name Pedro Joseph Montenegro as owner of the house of Donfreán and its lands, a resident of Santiago de Catasós. Pazo de Donfreán ranked among the great manor houses of the Deza region, alongside estates such as Pazo de Liñares and Pazo de Bendoiro, whose owners typically held high military rank and commanded their own resources.
