Where does the park's name come from?

The park takes its name from Francesc Gumà i Ferran, a local benefactor who in 1880 purchased a plot of land between the railway line and the Escola Samà building. His goal was to create a public green space that would also shield the school from being hemmed in by new construction. Work on laying out the park began the following year, in 1881, and the grounds have served as a public municipal park ever since.

At the heart of the park lies a pond, above which rises an artificially built mound faced with rock. A fig tree grows at its summit, and water flows from around its roots down into the pond below.

Near the pond stands a sculptural group depicting a "Genius" figure wrestling with a boulder from which water springs — a motif typical of nineteenth-century Romantic gardens, blending decorative sculpture with an engineered water feature.

Further along, you'll come across a stone bridge with a balustrade spanning part of the water feature, as well as an octagonal kiosk covered in glazed ceramic tiles — one of the park's most recognizable landmarks today. Cast-iron street lamps in a period style complete the scene, giving the park a nostalgic mood in the evening.
