Where does the name Puig i Valls come from?

Rafael Puig i Valls was a forestry engineer and one of the early advocates of nature conservation in Catalonia. In 1898 he launched the Tree Festival (Fiesta del Árbol) in Spain, an event aimed at teaching children about forests and the value of trees. In the garden surrounding his villa he planted numerous tree and fruit species, each labelled for educational purposes — a practice that still shapes the character of the park today. The garden also once held sculptures from the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition, an event where Rafael served as an advisor.

The current park was created in the 1980s on the grounds of the former estate and has since been expanded in several phases.
