Folgorida waterfall

Folgorida waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade tucked into the dense forest of Val Genova, in the municipality of Strembo, Trentino. It falls within the Adamello Brenta Nature Park — one of the largest protected areas in the southern Alps — and ranks as the fourth major waterfall along this valley. The river Folgorido drops roughly 80 metres through several stages between the trees on the valley's southern slope.

What will you see?

The water descends in a series of leaps through thick woodland, which means the falls remain hidden from a distance and reveal themselves only up close. Near the hamlet of Ragada, a short distance from the waterfall, stands the chapel of Madonna della Ragada (Our Lady of Snow), a useful landmark on the route. The surroundings are classic glacial valley scenery: steep forested walls, a fast-flowing stream, and a sense of seclusion even in high season. Spring and early summer bring snowmelt from the high Alps, and the flow is at its most powerful during that period.

How to get there?

The standard starting point is the restaurant area near the famous Cascata di Nardis — one of Italy's tallest waterfalls, also in Val Genova. From there, an easy riverside path follows the Sarca di Genova river for just under 4 kilometres. The walk takes around 50 minutes one way and involves minimal elevation gain, making it suitable for families and casual hikers. Along the way you first reach Cascata di Lares; Folgorida lies a few hundred metres further on.

Visitors following the official Waterfall Path through the Adamello Brenta Park will find Folgorida about 5 minutes off the main trail.

When to visit?

Val Genova is open to visitors from late spring through early autumn. Private vehicle access is restricted in summer, with shuttle buses running from Carisolo. May through July is the best window: snowmelt keeps the river full and the cascade at its most impressive. August crowds concentrate around Cascata di Nardis, but the deeper stretch of the valley stays noticeably quieter.
