About this place

CR7 Museum in Funchal

The CR7 Museum (Museu CR7) is a museum dedicated to the trophies and memorabilia of Cristiano Ronaldo, in Funchal, the capital of Madeira and the footballer's birthplace. It stands in the city centre by the waterfront at Praça do Mar and is one of the best-known stops for football fans on the island.

How did the CR7 Museum start?

The first exhibition opened on 15 December 2013 in a small venue on Rua Imperatriz Dona Amélia, showing 126 trophies. As the collection grew, the museum moved in 2016 to a much larger building on Praça do Mar, which opened on 6 June 2016. Today the display covers roughly 1,400 square metres. Above it sits the Pestana CR7 Funchal hotel, created in partnership between Ronaldo and the Pestana Group.

What can you see inside?

The collection holds more than two hundred exhibits. The best known are the five Ballon d'Or awards, the Champions League trophies and the Euro 2016 trophy won with Portugal. Alongside them are hundreds of career souvenirs: shirts, boots, individual and team awards, plus photos and multimedia displays that trace his path from the streets of Funchal to worldwide fame.

Who is it for?

You do not need to be a football fan. The layout is clear, needs no background knowledge, and a visit usually takes about an hour. It makes an easy break during a walk along the seafront, close to the harbour and promenade.
