Cascata della Presia is a waterfall in the municipality of Palazzuolo sul Senio, in the Province of Florence, at the border between Tuscany and Romagna in the heart of the Apennines. The site is also known locally as Pozzo della Presia — the "Well of Presia" — after the natural pool carved by the Senio River at the base of the rock ledge.

The waterfall drops into a narrow, shaded gorge where the water collects in an emerald-green pool. The temperature here is noticeably colder than in the rest of the Senio River — spring water seeps through crevices in the rocky riverbed, keeping the pool remarkably cold even in summer. From the centre of Palazzuolo sul Senio, take road SP477 toward the village of Piedimonte. After just under 2 km, a small parking area appears on the left. From there, a short descent — easy and without any significant technical difficulty — leads within a few minutes to the picnic zone and then to the river and waterfall.

Arriving by car is the most practical option. The nearest bus connections serve the route from Firenzuola or Borgo San Lorenzo; from either town you will need local transport or a taxi to reach the site.

When to visit?

The waterfall and swimming season along the Senio runs from late spring through early autumn. July and August bring the most visitors: the water level may be lower, but the pool retains enough depth for safe jumps from the top of the rock ledge. Spring offers the best conditions for seeing the waterfall at full force, after snowmelt raises the river.

Summer weekends draw families from Florence and Bologna; weekdays are noticeably quieter.
