About this place
Ampola waterfall in Storo lies in Val d'Ampola, Trentino-Alto Adige. The Palvico River drops roughly 12 metres into an emerald-green pool that draws swimmers in summer. The valley also contains Lake Ampola (730 m, 0.5 km2) at Tiarno di Sopra. Nearby stand the ruins of Fort Ampola, built by the Austrians between 1860 and 1862 as the 'key to Tyrol'; in July 1866 it was the site of a battle between Garibaldi's forces and Austrian troops. The site is easily accessible and considered one of the most photogenic waterfalls in Italy.
