Żupny Castle

Wieliczka, Poland

About this place

Żupny Castle is a Gothic castle in Wieliczka, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of Poland. It once served as the headquarters of the Wieliczka and Bochnia Salt Mine, and it stands within the former mine complex. Since the 2013 expansion, it has been included in the Wieliczka and Bochnia UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a good place for a short sightseeing stop.

Na miejscu można liczyć przede wszystkim na:

  • a chance to see a Gothic castle connected with the long history of salt mining in Wieliczka and Bochnia;
  • a walk through the former mine complex, where the building is set in a historic industrial landscape;
  • a visit to a UNESCO-listed site, with the castle forming part of the Wieliczka and Bochnia World Heritage area since the 2013 expansion.

For a visit here, comfortable shoes are a good idea, especially if you want to explore the wider former mine complex around the castle. It works well as a calm sightseeing stop for travelers interested in history, architecture, and UNESCO sites.
