Vysoká

Vysoká is the landmark viewpoint peak above the Leskové valley in the Little Carpathians (Malé Karpaty), rising on the boundary between the villages of Kuchyňa and Rohožník. At 754.3 m above sea level, it is the second-highest summit in the whole Little Carpathians range, just behind Záruby. For anyone based in Leskové, it is the obvious day-trip target — the trail starts almost from the parking area in the valley and climbs straight through a nature reserve to a wide-open ridge panorama.

How do you get to the top from Leskové?

The starting point is the Leskové valley, where a car park sits by the main road near the Hotel Galík. From there a marked trail leads up Vysoká — a blue-marked path first, joining a red-marked ridge trail that runs directly to the summit. The climb is demanding by Little Carpathians standards: the final stretch below the top is steep and rocky, so it suits hikers with reasonable fitness, though no climbing gear is needed. As an alternative, a green trail also branches off from the Leskové valley toward the nearby Miloňová viewpoint, making it easy to combine both stops in one outing.

The ridge of Vysoká is covered by patchy forest, which opens several viewpoints over the neighbouring Little Carpathian peaks, the Borská lowland and part of the Danube plain. On clear days you can also make out the White Carpathians, Považský Inovec and Tribeč, and on exceptionally transparent days even Vtáčnik and the Alpine foothills, with the Schneeberg massif visible on the horizon. A weathered signal mast still stands on the summit, a leftover from the former military airfield at Kuchyňa — today it mostly serves as a landmark for hikers.

The whole mountain lies within the Vysoká National Nature Reserve, covering more than 80 hectares and protected since 1988. Its slopes preserve a patch of old-growth forest of around 68 hectares, one of the more valuable stands of this kind in the region. The area also forms part of the Natura 2000 site SKUEV0267 Biele hory and of the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, so it is best to stay on the marked paths rather than wander off into the woods.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring and autumn are the best seasons: the canopy is thinner, the panorama is at its clearest, and the climb is not hampered by summer heat. In summer, an early start helps avoid the exposed, sun-baked sections of the ridge. In winter the trail can turn icy, especially on the rockier stretches near the top, so crampons or trekking poles are a good idea.
