About this place
Troubecké jezero
Troubecké jezero is one of the lakes that make up the Tovačov Lakes (Tovačovská jezera) complex in Central Moravia, situated between the town of Tovačov and the village of Troubky, close to where the Bečva river flows into the Morava. It sits roughly 3 km from Tovačov and about 9 km from Přerov.
How did the lake come about?
Like the other lakes in the complex, Troubecké jezero formed when former gravel and sand pits filled with water. Extraction in the Tovačov area began back in the 1950s, and over time the resulting pits turned into the chain of lakes visitors find here today.
How many lakes make up the complex, and what makes Troubecké different?
The Tovačov Lakes complex is made up of four lakes: Annínské, Troubecké, Skašovské, and Donbas, each serving a somewhat different role. What sets Troubecké jezero apart is that, together with the neighboring Sever lake, it functions as a source of drinking water and falls under the strictest protection zone of the water catchment area. Because of this, it isn't used for swimming or intensive water recreation — across the whole complex, official bathing is only permitted at Annínské jezero, in a marked section of its shore.
What birds can you see at Troubecké jezero?
The lake lies along a migration route used by numerous waterbird species, which makes it one of the more notable birdwatching spots in the Přerov area. Visitors can spot grebes, divers, cormorants, and other waterfowl that stop here during their migrations. Because of this ecological value, the Czech Society for Ornithology (ČSO) built a wooden observation tower on the lake's southwestern shore in 2014, allowing birdwatchers to observe wildlife closely without disturbing it.
How do you get to the lake?
Troubecké jezero can be reached on foot via a red-marked hiking trail or by bike, on a route connecting Tovačov and Troubky that runs close to the shoreline. This makes it easy to reach both for locals and for visitors touring the wider Tovačov Lakes area.
What should you know before visiting?
The surrounding landscape is flat, typical of the Morava river valley, so a walk or bike ride along the shore doesn't require any particular fitness or preparation. Because of its status as a drinking water catchment, it's worth remembering that this isn't a place for swimming or camping — it's best suited to visitors looking for a quiet walk by the water and some birdwatching, rather than sunbathing or water sports.
