Torre dels Moros

Torre dels Moros is a medieval watchtower standing above Espot, a mountain village in Pallars Sobirà, in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Where exactly is the tower?

Torre dels Moros stands southwest of the center of Espot, on the shaded slope of the Pui de Linya hill, just below and east of the wooded area known as Bosc de la Torre. Construction is dated to somewhere between the 11th and 13th centuries. Although the Espot valley itself is documented as far back as 1066, no surviving record mentions the tower directly; historians believe it functioned as a lookout post dependent on a nearby castle, most likely the castle of Llort. Today the structure is in very good condition, which makes its original shape and building technique easy to read even without written records.

When is the best time to visit?

June through September is the most reliable window, when the paths around Pui de Linya are dry and the days are long. In spring and autumn the shaded slope can stay damp and slippery, and in winter snow lingering on the north-facing side of the hill can make the approach harder. Espot sits at Pyrenean altitude, so even in summer it's worth packing a warm layer for the evening.
