The Teatre Municipal de Balaguer is the main cultural stage of Balaguer, a town on the banks of the River Segre in Lleida province, Catalonia. Despite the similar name, it has nothing to do with the theatre of the same type in nearby Lleida city — Balaguer's venue is a distinct building, opened on 6 April 1997 as the town's "new theatre" project.

What makes the building architecturally notable?

The theatre was designed as a deliberate revival of rammed earth (tapia), a centuries-old Catalan building technique. Its walls, reaching up to 15 metres in height, were raised using this method, pairing one of the oldest construction traditions in Catalonia with modern engineering. The foundations rest on reinforced-concrete piles driven deep into the gravel bed of the Segre valley, while the roof is a lightweight steel structure. Inside, the seating tiers are built from prefabricated concrete steps, a practical solution typical of theatres from that era.

The venue has a ground-floor hall seating 500 people plus an amphitheatre level for 207 more, giving a combined capacity of over 700 seats. The whole building covers more than 2,000 square metres, making it one of the larger cultural venues in the Noguera region.
