Who was Jairán?

Jairán (died in Almería in July 1028) was a saqlabi — a Slavic eunuch who served in the army of Almanzor, one of the most powerful figures of the Caliphate of Córdoba. When the caliphate collapsed into political chaos in the early 11th century, Jairán seized control of the Alcazaba of Almería and, in July 1014, proclaimed himself an independent ruler, founding the Taifa of Almería. He governed it until his death in 1028.
