Pico de la Zarza

Pico de la Zarza is the highest peak on Fuerteventura, towering above the village of Cofete on the island's southern coast. Standing at 807 metres above sea level, it sits within Jandía Natural Park, a rugged and sparsely populated peninsula at the island's southern tip. The peak is also known locally as Pico de Jandía.

Most hikers start from Morro Jable, the main resort town on Fuerteventura's south coast. From there, a trail of roughly 8 kilometres round trip leads up to the summit, typically taking around 4 hours to complete. The path runs mostly along dirt and gravel tracks, growing steeper and more demanding as it nears the top. It's a moderately challenging route — well marked but tiring, given the substantial elevation gain. Start early, bring plenty of water, and wear sturdy hiking boots, since the exposed terrain offers almost no shade along the way.
