Pesegh waterfall

Cascata del Pésegh in Brinzio, province of Varese, is one of the quieter natural highlights of the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park in Lombardy. The Valmolina stream drops in a single unbroken fall of roughly 30 metres through dense woodland on the western edge of the village.

How to get there

The trailhead is on provincial road SP62, on the stretch heading toward Luino. A well-marked path branches off to the left, and a roughly 20-minute walk through the forest brings you to the waterfall. There is no official car park: most visitors leave their vehicles near the last houses at the edge of Brinzio or pull over at a small clearing by the path entrance.

What to see around the waterfall

The falls themselves are the main draw, but the surrounding forest holds traces of something equally worth exploring. Standing near the base are the ruins of the Filanda Ranchet, a spinning mill active from the second half of the 19th century until the early 1900s. At its peak it employed around 140 workers from Brinzio and nearby villages. The mill ran on water power: the Valmolina fed a turbine that first drove mechanical looms and later generated electricity on-site. Lengths of pressure pipe and the housings of turbines and alternators are still visible among the trees — an open-air exhibit of industrial heritage.

When is the best time to visit?

The waterfall is at its most dramatic after heavy rain, when the Valmolina carries a full flow. For the strongest impression, aim for a visit in the day or two following significant rainfall.
