Parque de Las Canteras

Parque de Las Canteras is a 25-hectare forest park in Puerto Real, in the province of Cádiz, sitting roughly 500 meters north of the town center. It is the largest green space in this part of Cádiz Bay and a favorite spot among locals for walking, jogging, or simply resting in the shade.

Where does the name come from?

"Las Canteras" means "the quarries," a nod to the site's history: in the 16th century, stone was extracted here and later used to build the Parish Church of San Sebastián in Puerto Real and Seville Cathedral. Once quarrying stopped, pine forest gradually took over the land, and in 1909 the residents of Puerto Real turned it into a public space open to everyone.
