Parc de Montigalà

Parc de Montigalà is one of the most significant green spaces in Badalona, located in the Montigalà neighborhood and bordered by Avinguda de Puigfred, Carrer de Sant Fermí, Travessera de Montigalà and Rambla de Sant Joan. Covering 8.1 hectares, the park has been one of the most visited spots among the city's residents since it opened in 1991.

How do you get there?

The park sits in the heart of the Montigalà district, in the northern part of Badalona, a few kilometers from the seafront promenade. The main entrance is on Avinguda de Puigfred, where a wide, tree-lined avenue planted with jacarandas leads into the park. Additional access points open onto Carrer de Sant Fermí, Travessera de Montigalà and Rambla de Sant Joan — the latter forms a broad green corridor connecting Montigalà with Parc de les Muntanyetes, a large municipal park on the other side of the neighborhood. From the northern part of Montigalà, closer to the highway, the Camí de Sant Jeroni de la Murtra also links the park to open natural areas on the outskirts of the city.

The central area of the park has a semi-forested character: gentle, grass-covered slopes are planted with Mediterranean vegetation, mainly holm oaks and pines, crossed by paved paths suited for walking or jogging. The entrance avenue from Avinguda de Puigfred, lined with jacarandas and grass, is one of the park's most distinctive features — in spring and early summer these trees burst into purple blossom.

In February 2025, a new recreation area opened on an esplanade in front of the Joan Llongueras and IE Llibertat schools, near Avinguda del Puigfred. The 3,000 m² space includes a 500 m² play area for children and teenagers, refreshing that part of the park and making it more attractive for families.

Thanks to its connection to Parc de les Muntanyetes, Parc de Montigalà effectively functions as part of a larger urban green network, allowing for longer walks without ever leaving green surroundings.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring is an especially good time to visit, when the jacarandas along the main avenue bloom and the grassy slopes turn a deep green. In summer, the Mediterranean vegetation — holm oaks and pines — provides plenty of shade, making the park a comfortable place to rest on hot days. The paved paths keep the park accessible year-round regardless of weather, though shorter daylight hours in autumn and winter are worth keeping in mind.
