Oxena falls

Oxena Falls (Cascate dell'Oxena) are one of Sicily's best-kept natural secrets — a little-known waterfall in the Iblei Mountains, on the territory of Buccheri in the province of Catania. The Oxena torrent has carved a gorge of rare beauty, with water falling over a rock face into a clear natural pool surrounded by oak woodland and Mediterranean vegetation.

The landscape surprises visitors who associate Sicily only with dry, sun-scorched terrain. The falls lie in the Iblei Mountains, on the territory of Buccheri (province of Catania), about one hour by car from Catania. The forest trail is not technically demanding, but sturdy hiking footwear is needed — stones near the water can be wet and slippery.
