Who was Néstor?

Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre (1887–1938) was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and became the only Canarian painter to gain recognition within the European Symbolist and modernist circles of the early 20th century. After years spent in Madrid and Paris, he returned to Gran Canaria in the 1930s. Together with his architect brother Miguel, he launched a cultural movement known as "tipismo," aimed at promoting the island's tourism and cultural identity.
