What is the history behind the Battle of Rande?

The Battle of Rande took place during the War of the Spanish Succession. A fleet of Spanish and French ships carrying treasure from Cuba — the so-called silver fleet — had taken shelter in the calm waters of the Ría de Vigo. An Anglo-Dutch fleet caught up with them there, and the resulting clash is still a draw for treasure hunters and naval historians today. The museum tells the story from a local, regional angle, tying historical fact to the identity of the area.
