L'Atlàntida, Centre d'Arts Escèniques d'Osona is the main performing-arts hub of Vic, the capital of Catalonia's Osona region, bringing a theatre, an auditorium and a music school together under one roof.

The complex stands at Carrer Francesc Maria Masferrer 4, in the Mèder Can Tortadès area, a short walk from Vic's old town. It sits next to the Can Serratosa building, home to the centre's administrative offices and to EMVIC, the municipal music school and conservatory. The name L'Atlàntida covers two separate city services run side by side: EMVIC and the performing-arts centre itself, known locally as CAE.

Why is it called L'Atlàntida, and what came before it?

The name carries over from an earlier cinema-turned-theatre built in the 1950s, which served as Vic's municipal stage from the mid-1980s until 2002, when structural problems forced its closure. For the following eight years the city had no dedicated theatre of its own.

When was the current building raised, and who designed it?

Construction of the present building ran from 2007 to 2010, following a design competition won by architect Josep Llinàs, working with Josep Llobet, Pedro Ayesta and Laia Vives. The project cost 29.5 million euros and took under two and a half years to complete. The new venue opened on 23 April 2010, with the premiere of "El cant del lloc," a piece written for the occasion with lyrics by poet Lluís Solà and music by Josep Baucells.
