Kozubová

Kozubová rises 981 metres above sea level in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, on the Czech side of the border just above the village of Košařiska. What makes Kozubová worth the walk?

Unlike most of its neighbouring hills, Kozubová combines a chapel and a lookout tower in a single structure. The summit is crowned by the stone Chapel of St. Anne, built in the 1930s from Godula sandstone, a material typical of this stretch of the Beskids. It went up thanks to a local priest's initiative and donations collected from residents of the surrounding villages — which is also why the building still belongs to the parish rather than to any municipal or tourism authority.

What can you actually see from the tower?

An 18-metre tower is attached to the chapel, with a covered observation platform roughly 15 metres up. From there the view opens mainly to the north and east — toward the town of Třinec, the Velká Čantoryje ridge, and the area around Bystřice nad Olší. In other directions, mature forest blocks much of the panorama, so this isn't a full 360-degree viewpoint, but it's still one of the better vantage points along this section of the Czech-Polish borderland.

Access to the tower itself can be restricted — the key and opening times are managed by the operator of the nearby mountain cottage, so it's worth checking in advance if reaching the platform (not just the summit) is the goal.

How do you get to the top?

Kozubová sits at a junction of several marked routes, which makes it a convenient starting or connecting point regardless of where a hike begins:

• a yellow trail climbs from Milíkov (about 4.7 km one way),
• blue and green trails converge at the chapel,
• a signed cycling route also passes through the area.

The summit is also reachable from Košařiska or Dolní Lomná, both popular options for visitors staying on either side of the Olše valley. About two hundred metres below the chapel stands a mountain cottage, a natural stopping point before the final stretch of the climb.
