Fundación Pedro Cano

The Pedro Cano Foundation sits on the bank of the Segura River in Blanca, a small town in the Region of Murcia, and is dedicated entirely to the work of painter Pedro Cano.

Where is it located?

The foundation occupies a striking modern building along Avenida del Río Segura, designed by architect Martín Lejarraga. Covering roughly 1,800 square metres, the structure stands out against the river valley landscape around it and is often referred to locally as MUCAB — Museo y Centro de Arte de Blanca.

The permanent collection holds more than a thousand pieces — oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and the travel notebooks Cano filled during decades of journeys abroad. Born in Blanca, the artist became known chiefly for watercolours capturing places he visited, from Mediterranean towns to far-flung landscapes. Alongside the permanent display, the foundation runs temporary exhibitions, talks and publishing projects tied to his career.

Who runs the foundation?

It was set up in January 2009 through an agreement between the painter's family, the regional government of Murcia and Blanca's town council. Its stated purpose is to preserve and spread awareness of Cano's work through exhibitions, education and publishing.

How do you get there, and when should you go?

Blanca lies inland along the Segura valley, so arriving by car is the most practical option. The museum opens Wednesday to Friday from 10:00–13:00 and 17:00–19:00, Saturdays from 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–19:00, and Sundays and public holidays from 11:00–14:00. It stays closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. During July and August the schedule can be reduced or altered, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a summer visit. Guided tours run daily, starting half an hour after opening time.

What does it cost?

A standard ticket costs €3. Entry is free on Wednesdays (group bookings excluded), and children under 12 accompanied by an adult get in free any day of the week.
