Frankveld

Frankveld is a wooded landscape park in Beersel, in the Flemish Region of Belgium, laid out on a slope that descends toward the Senne valley and the neighboring municipality of Drogenbos. Covering roughly 14 hectares, it combines mature woodland with newer plantings, giving it the feel of both a forest and a well-kept municipal park.

How did the park come to be?

Frankveld was established in 1993, with local readers of the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad contributing to the planting of trees as part of a community initiative. In 2011 the park was expanded by a further 2.5 hectares, extending the area available to walkers and nearby residents. The park sits within a natural spring area — numerous springs feed a small stream that in turn supplies ponds and wet meadows. Small dams have been placed at several points, creating calm pools and minor waterfalls that add variety to the landscape.

Frankveld is primarily a place for walking and relaxing outdoors. Its walking paths are paved, making them accessible to wheelchair users as well as families with strollers. Benches and picnic tables are set up among the trees and across the wide lawns, making the park a popular spot for family picnics on warm days. The grounds are also suited to jogging and quiet walks with dogs.

Dog owners will find a dedicated off-leash area covering nearly 2 hectares, which partly includes a swimming pond where dogs can cool off during hot weather.

The park can be reached through several entrances, from Ukkelsesteenweg, Dachelenbergstraat, and Landhuizenweg. Visitors arriving by car will find parking at Ukkelsesteenweg 211 in Beersel. Those using public transport can get off at the "Beersel Dachelenberg" bus stop, only a couple of minutes' walk from the main entrance.
