Construction began in 1629 to a design attributed to the Italian architects working for Albrecht von Wallenstein, Andrea Spezza or Niccolò Sebregondi. The building was originally intended as a hospital and cemetery chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity. A fire in 1630 damaged the unfinished structure, and Wallenstein's assassination in 1634 halted the project for decades. Only between 1661 and 1663 did master builder J. Patočka complete the church in an early Baroque style, after which it was reconsecrated under a new dedication — to Our Lady of Sorrows de Sale, also referred to as de Salette. In 1718, builder G. Gilmetti added a tower to the façade, giving the building the more imposing profile it still has today. Further repairs followed in 1795, and a substantial reconstruction took place in 1941. The church has been listed as a protected cultural monument since 3 May 1958.
