Caves Ventura Soler

Subirats, Spain

About this place

Caves Ventura Soler is a family-run cava producer working the traditional method, set in Subirats, in the heart of Catalonia's Alt Penedès region.

Who started this winery?

The business was founded in 2003 by the Ventura and Soler couple, who come from two families with a long-standing tradition in viticulture and sparkling wine production around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia — the town widely regarded as the birthplace of cava. Their vineyards spread across the municipalities of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Subirats, an area long known for growing grapes destined for sparkling wine.

What gives the local cava its character?

Mediterranean sunshine combined with proximity to the sea lets the grapes ripen slowly while keeping their aroma and freshness intact. That balance of climate and native varieties — Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada — is what gives Ventura Soler's cavas their lively, effervescent style. Every bottle is made using the traditional method, meaning the second fermentation happens directly inside the bottle, exactly as with Champagne.

Which cavas can visitors taste here?

The winery produces several ranges, each defined by its own blend and ageing time:

  • Gran Cuvée Brut Nature — a classic Penedès blend of 50% Xarel·lo and 50% Macabeo and Parellada, aged 24 months in the cellar for a soft yet lively profile.
  • Primer Cuvée Brut Nature — made only from first-press wines, blending 30% Chardonnay, 50% Xarel·lo and 20% Macabeo, also aged 24 months; it stands out for its complexity and pairs well with food.
  • Guarda Cava Brut Natural — a coupage of Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada, aged at least eighteen months to let its aromas fully develop.

How can you visit Caves Ventura Soler?

The winery sits along the Cinturó de circumval·lació ring road in Subirats, just a few minutes' drive from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. Cellar tours and tastings run strictly by prior booking, either by phone or email. On site there's also a wine bar, open weekdays from 9am to 1pm and 3pm to 7pm, and weekends from 10am to 2pm — a relaxed spot to sit among the vines with a glass of cava. Caves Ventura Soler holds the "Pedala i Tasta" seal, marking it as part of a cycling-and-wine-tourism network, so it's a regular stop for cyclists riding through the Penedès vineyards.

Why is it worth a stop?

What sets this place apart is direct contact with the people making the wine. It isn't a large industrial bodega but a small, family-scale winery where visitors can follow the cava-making process step by step and talk to the winemakers themselves. For anyone touring Penedès, it's a natural stop between Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and the surrounding vineyards.
