Bienerthův vrch

Bienerthův vrch is a 614-metre hill right next to the town of Rychnov u Jablonce nad Nisou, in the Liberec Region within the Jablonec nad Nisou district. It's the highest point in the municipality of Rychnov u Jablonce nad Nisou and one of the notable summits of the Ještědsko-kozákovský hřbet ridge, a range popular with hikers in northern Bohemia.

The summit sits roughly 2.5 km south-southwest of central Rychnov, within the cadastral territory of the village of Pelíkovice. Less than half a kilometre away lies the small settlement of Rydvaltice, which also happens to be the most convenient starting point for a hike up, since the paved access road ends there. The hill rises above the left bank of the Mohelka river valley, which cuts a deep, scenic gorge at this spot.

How did the hill form?

Bienerthův vrch is an erosional remnant — an asymmetrical, dome-shaped ridge pushed up by tectonic forces along the Lusatian Fault (Lužická porucha), one of the region's key geological structures. The same forces shaped several neighbouring hills, which makes the area worth a look even for casual visitors with no geology background: the steep, lopsided profile of the slope tells the story on its own.

The slopes are covered mostly with coniferous forest, but the summit itself is cleared — occupied by fields and meadows. Near the village of Pelíkovice, a blue-marked hiking trail also passes by, offering an alternative approach on foot as part of a longer route through the countryside.
