Art Park

Art Park is Croatia's first street art park, launched in Zagreb by the street art collective Pimp my Pump together with the design studio Lapo Lapo. A once-neglected patch of urban greenery was turned into an open-air gallery, with walls, steps and other surfaces covered in murals by local and international artists.

Where is Art Park located?

The project started on the slope between Strossmayerovo šetalište and Tomićeva street, right by the upper station of Zagreb's funicular and a popular viewpoint over the Upper Town. Over time the concept expanded, and a second edition now runs in Ribnjak Park, next to Zagreb's cathedral, where summer events take place on a regular basis.

The main draw is the street art itself — murals, installations and graphics painted directly onto the park's walls and architectural features. Artists rework and add to the pieces every season, so the park never looks quite the same two years running. Beyond the art, Art Park offers shaded spots to sit, benches and quiet corners that make it an easy stop while exploring the Upper Town.

What events take place here?

The artistic programme runs from May to October. During those months artists from Croatia and abroad paint new murals on site, and the park also hosts workshops for all age groups, open-air film screenings, table tennis tournaments and music evenings. Several art festivals hold parts of their programme here too, which keeps the space lively throughout summer and into early autumn.

How do you get to Art Park?

The Strossmayerovo šetalište location is within easy walking distance of central Zagreb — head up to the Upper Town from Ban Jelačić Square, or take the historic funicular (Uspinjača), which stops right next to the park. The Ribnjak edition sits just behind the cathedral, a few minutes on foot from Kaptol and the main square, so both spots are easy to combine with the rest of a city walk.

When is the best time to visit?

Things are busiest in summer, when the full artistic programme and evening events are running — the park comes alive, especially on warm evenings. Outside the season (November to April) it stays open and accessible, just without the accompanying events, making it a quieter option for anyone looking for a break from the city centre crowds.
