Nowy Wiśnicz Castle
About this place
Nowy Wiśnicz Castle is a castle in Stary Wiśnicz, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of Poland, set on a forested hill above the River Leksandrówka. It was raised by Jan Kmita in the second half of the fourteenth century and later developed in the Baroque style with Renaissance elements. For visitors, it offers a compact sightseeing stop with a strong historic atmosphere.
Na miejscu można liczyć przede wszystkim na:
- a quadrilateral layout with an inner courtyard, which helps show how the castle is organized from the inside;
- four towers, placed one at each corner, giving the whole complex a clearly defensive silhouette;
- bastion fortifications and the main gate from the early 17th century, both important traces of the castle’s later military character.
For a visit, it is worth wearing comfortable shoes, especially if you want to take your time around the hilltop setting and the fortifications. This is a good choice for travelers interested in castle architecture, older defensive structures, and a short, focused sightseeing outing.
