Międzyrzecz Castle
About this place
Międzyrzecz Castle is a medieval stronghold in Międzyrzecz, also known as the Royal Piast Castle of Międzyrzecz. It stands on a small hill between the floodplains of the Obra and Paklica Rivers, and was built around 1350 by King Casimir III the Great on the site of an earlier gord from the second half of the 9th century. Surrounded by a dike, it offers a short visit focused on history and the landscape around the rivers.
Na miejscu można liczyć przede wszystkim na:
- a look at the castle’s medieval setting, with the stronghold placed on elevated ground between two river floodplains
- the chance to trace the site’s long history, from the 9th-century gord to the royal castle built around 1350 by Casimir III the Great
- a walk around the dike and the immediate surroundings, which help show how the fortress was positioned in relation to the Obra and Paklica Rivers
For a visit here, it is worth wearing comfortable shoes, especially if you want to explore the area around the hill and dike at an unhurried pace. This is a good choice for travelers interested in medieval history, local heritage, and a brief sightseeing stop in Międzyrzecz.
