Zámek Loučka

Zámek Loučka is a historic chateau complex in the village of Loučka, about 10 km west of Valašské Meziříčí, in the Vsetín district of the Zlín Region in Moravia.

Where does the castle's story begin?

The estate's roots go back to the early 13th century, when Loučka belonged to the feudal holdings of the Bishops of Olomouc, who leased small manors like this one to their vassals. The first written record of a fortified manor house on the site dates to 1563. Over the following decades the house was rebuilt in Renaissance style, and it gained its present Baroque appearance thanks to work carried out in the 1660s under Michal Paris Kaltschmied of Eisenberg. After 1769, the estate was reconstructed by Count Leopold Lamberg, who also converted the castle chapel into a church.

Who owned the castle over the years?

Around the turn of the 20th century the estate changed hands several times: it belonged to Alois Mikyška from 1901 to 1906, then to Baron Armin Popper von Podhrágy (1906–1907), Karel Munk (1908–1910) and Dr. Augustin Lipčík (1910–1918). In 1918 the property was bought by the Zlín industrialist Tomáš Baťa, and it served as a summer residence for the Baťa family until 1945. After the war the estate was nationalised, and insufficient maintenance accelerated its decline. Following the return of the property to the Baťa family after 1989, restoration work began, though the main building's technical condition still remains a concern.

Zámek Loučka has been listed as a protected cultural monument since 3 May 1958, yet it also appears on the register of endangered heritage buildings. The side wing has undergone renovation in recent years, though it is considered a poor match for the building's original character, while the main part of the chateau continues to deteriorate. This means Zámek Loučka is not a typical sightseeing destination with regular interior tours — it remains private property of the Baťa family, and viewing is largely limited to the exterior and the surrounding grounds.
