Modlin Fortress in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, on the Narew River about 50 kilometers north of Warsaw, is one of the largest 19th-century fortresses in Poland. It is also known in Russian as the Novogeorgievsk Fortress. Originally built by the French between 1806 and 1812, it offers visitors a chance for sightseeing with a strong historical backdrop.
