Turbacz

Obidowa, Poland

About this place

Turbacz is the highest peak in the Gorce Mountains, a range in southern Lesser Poland, and it rises in the middle of the massif near Obidowa. Most sources give its height as 1310 meters, and the summit is part of the Crown of Polish Mountains. Today it is a forested mountain top with a stone obelisk and an iron cross, making it a good place for a short mountain outing.

Na miejscu można liczyć przede wszystkim na:

  • a summit hidden in dense pine forest, so the immediate surroundings are not open to wide views from the top
  • a marked peak with a stone obelisk and an iron cross, which gives the summit a clear and recognizable point of interest
  • a bit of mountain history: in the past the top was treeless, and 1832 sources say Kraków could be seen from there with a telescope

For a visit, it is worth bringing proper hiking shoes and checking the weather, since the summit is in the mountains and the forested top does not offer open panoramas today. This is a good choice for hikers who want a straightforward mountain trip and a stop at one of the best-known peaks in the Gorce Mountains.
