The turning point came at the close of the 18th century: between 1797 and 1803, the former Cordelières convent was converted into the new home of the town hospital. The building carried on in that role for close to two centuries — it was only in 1977 that the hospital moved to new premises, finally closing the medical chapter of the site's history. It was after that move that the old walls began their transformation into a venue for the performing arts.
