Súsedská

Súsedská is a modern observation tower standing on Chrástky hill (310 m above sea level), on the border of three Moravian villages — Hýsly, Ježov, and Žádovice — in the Kyjovské Slovácko region of South Moravia. Built in 2021, it quickly became a landmark of the area thanks to its unusual architecture.

What does the Súsedská tower look like?

The structure stands 21 meters tall and is built from concrete and steel. A staircase of 99 steps leads to the top. Its most distinctive feature is the triangular floor plan, inspired by the triquetra — an ancient symbol representing the inseparable connection of three elements. Here it symbolizes the cooperation of the three municipalities — Hýsly, Ježov, and Žádovice — that jointly funded and built the tower. The design comes from the DESIGN s.r.o. architectural studio based in Chotěboř, and the project received the Building of the Year award for the South Moravian Region in the year it was completed.

What can you see from the viewing platform?

From the deck at the top, visitors get a panoramic view of several landmarks of South Moravia: the Pálava hills, the Chřiby range, the Ždánický les forest, and the Buchlovské hory hills with Buchlov Castle. On clear days, the view can extend as far as Slovakia and Austria, making Súsedská one of the more rewarding viewpoints in the region.

How do you get to the tower?

The tower sits along the Podchřibím hiking trail, which connects the three villages that funded it. It cannot be reached by car — access is on foot or by bike from one of the neighboring villages. Parking is available in all three municipalities — Hýsly, Ježov, and Žádovice — from where marked walking paths lead to the base of the tower. The walk is short and manageable for families with children, which has made Súsedská a popular weekend destination for locals in the Kyjovské Slovácko region.
