Stržový vrch

Stržový vrch is a 704-metre summit rising above the village of Oldřichov v Hájích in the Jizera Mountains (Jizerské hory), close to the Czech-Polish border. It's a favourite hiking destination in the Frýdlant area, best known for the rock formations nearby and the sweeping views it offers over the surrounding ridges.

How to get to Stržový vrch?

The most convenient starting point is the village of Oldřichov v Hájích itself, from where a marked nature trail (naučná stezka Oldřichovské háje a skály) leads into the hills. The route runs through Oldřichovské sedlo, continues via Kopřivník and Stržový vrch, and then takes hikers on to Lysé skály, Skalní hrad, the Hřebenový buk viewpoint and the area around Oldřichovský Špičák before looping back to the village. The full circuit is a moderately demanding walk of a few hours, well marked and popular with both casual hikers and climbers.

Oldřichov v Hájích is reachable by car or local public transport from nearby Frýdlant, just a few kilometres away.

When to visit?

The best time for a hike here runs from late spring to early autumn, when the trails are dry and the views from the exposed rocky sections are at their clearest. In summer, an early morning or late afternoon visit helps avoid the heat on sun-exposed rock. Autumn adds extra charm, as the beech and pine forests covering the slopes of the Jizera Mountains turn colour.

In winter, the route can be trickier due to icy patches on the rocks, so it's worth taking extra care or sticking to the marked path without scrambling onto the rock formations.
