Sochy před školou

Kraličky, Czechia

About this place

Sochy před školou (Statues in Front of the School) is a small local landmark in Kraličky, a tiny village that forms part of the Kralice na Hané municipality in the Prostějov District, Olomouc Region, Czech Republic.

Draft note: available sources do not conclusively confirm the historical details (sculptor, exact date, depicted figures) of this specific statue group in Kraličky, so this entry is limited to verified facts about the village itself.

Where is Kraličky?

Kraličky lies in the northern part of the Kralice na Hané municipality, about 4 kilometres east of Prostějov and 12 kilometres south of Olomouc. The village sits on the flat, agricultural landscape of the Upper Morava Valley, typical of the wider Haná region.

Where does the village name come from?

The settlement was founded in 1791 by the Seilern family, owners of the Kralice estate, as part of a parceling of estate land into a settler village. It was originally called Sajlerov (also spelled Sailerov, Seilerov, or Sajlerow), and Seilerndorf in German. It was only renamed Kraličky in 1950. Today the village has about 90 inhabitants, down from 160 in 1880.

What else is there to know about the area?

The main confirmed landmark in Kraličky is the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk from 1881, standing on the village green. One curious detail: the cross is placed behind the chapel rather than at its entrance, as is customary. A railway line, Nezamyslice–Kouty nad Desnou, once ran through the area, with a Kraličky stop located outside the built-up part of the village.

How do you get there?

Kraličky sits right next to Kralice na Hané, a larger town with a castle and historic centre, making it easy to combine a visit with the surrounding area. The nearest larger town is Prostějov, about 4 km away, reachable by local roads and bus connections.
