Serralada de Marina Park

Badalona, Spain

About this place

Serralada de Marina is a natural park spread across the hills above Badalona, covering roughly 4,000 hectares of mountain terrain that runs parallel to the Mediterranean coastline, between Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and neighboring municipalities. It forms part of the Catalan coastal range, specifically its southern stretch known as the Serra de la Conreria, sitting between the Vallès plain and the sea.

What does the landscape look like?

The highest point of the range is Turó de Galceran, reaching 485 meters above sea level, valued for its geographical, ecological and landscape significance due to its position between the inland plain and the coast. The climate is coastal Mediterranean, with average temperatures around 15°C and annual rainfall between 500 and 600 millimeters. Vegetation is dominated by extensive holm oak and cork oak forests in shaded areas, while sunnier slopes are covered with rockrose and heather scrubland, along with pine stands.

What can visitors see and do here?

Serralada de Marina is shared among four neighboring municipalities and is known for its rich flora and fauna, numerous traditional farmhouses (masies), springs, viewpoints and notable heritage sites. Among the most important historical spots are the Iberian settlement on the hill of Turó d'en Boscà, the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra, and the Can Miravitges farmhouse, home to the Angeleta Ferrer School. The park also offers a mountain gastronomic scene tied to its rural farmhouses.

The terrain is crossed by a dense network of hiking paths of varying difficulty, with dozens of walking and trekking routes ranging from easy, family-friendly trails to longer hikes with significant elevation gain. One popular route starts near Carrer de Suïssa and follows the Camí de la Font de Dalt and Camí de Sant Jeroni de la Murtra toward the monastery, continuing along the Camí del Monestir and Camí de Can Mas up to the Collet de la Vallençana pass. Another well-known route links the Sant Jeroni de la Murtra monastery with the Turó de la Nadala hill and the Serra de Can Mas ridge, while a further trail crosses the hills of Turó d'en Folç and Turó d'en Boscà.

Where can you stop for a view?

One of the favorite destinations for walkers, particularly those setting out from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, is the viewpoint at the Collet de la Vallençana pass.
