Krkonoše Tree Top Walk

Jańskie Łaźnie, Czechia

About this place

The Treetop Walkway in Janské Lázně is one of the most popular attractions on the Czech side of the Krkonoše (Giant) Mountains. The wooden-and-steel structure runs along the slope of Černá Hora (Black Mountain), climbing in places to 23 metres above the ground, with a total length — including an underground section — of 1511 metres. Opened in 2017, it has since become a favourite stop for families, view-seekers and anyone looking for an active day out in the mountains.

How do you get to the Treetop Walkway?

The walkway is located in Janské Lázně, a spa resort town on the Czech side of the Krkonoše, close to the Polish border. The most convenient way to get there is by car from Karpacz or Szklarska Poręba, crossing the border toward Trutnov. The entrance to the trail is at the lower cable car station, from where the path begins winding through the crowns of spruce and beech trees covering the mountainside.

What will you see along the trail?

The trail runs along a walkway suspended among the tree branches, offering a view of the forest from a completely different perspective than from ground level. About two-thirds of the way along stands a 45-metre wooden lookout tower — the highest point of the entire attraction. From the top, visitors get a panoramic view over the surrounding forests, the peaks of the Krkonoše and the town of Janské Lázně itself. For those looking for an extra thrill, the tower includes a dry slide that can be used instead of the stairs on the way down. Unlike many similar attractions, this walkway doesn't end at treetop level — it continues underground, making it an unusual combination of an elevated and an underground route. The entire trail was designed to be barrier-free, so it can also be used by wheelchair users and visitors with prams.

When should you visit and what does it cost?

The walkway is open year-round, with the exception of 24 December, so it can be visited both in summer, when the forest is lush and green, and in winter, when the trees are covered in snow and the tower offers views of the snow-capped Krkonoše peaks. An adult ticket costs 250 CZK, while children aged 3 to 14 pay 190 CZK. It's worth setting aside at least an hour for the visit, including time to climb the tower and, if you like, take the slide down.
